More Pics

What can I say… I’m on a roll. Some more photos from this past Spring. Enjoy!

My water heater drives web traffic

In a previous post, I included a photo of our new water heater in it’s snazzy Aqua Hut. Thanks to that photo, I had two visits to jordanne.net today from a Google image search for “water heater crawl space” — as of this evening, I’m the 70th result (page 4). Sweet.

Now with Photos

My friend, and former boss at JGSullivan, Sharon, recently asked where the photos were on this site… good question. When I migrated this site to a new hosting provide and blogging platform, I just didn’t have (or find) the time to re-setup the photo section. I figured today would be the day I would change that.

I considered using a free photo hosting service like Flickr or PhotoBucket, but found them to be limiting. So I ended up going with Web Album Generator… I create the album on my PC (offline) and then FTP it to my site. Pretty easy.

So check out the new photo section. I’ll do what I can to keep it updated, and perhaps even go back and create some albums of older pics.

Back from California

So I spent last weekend in California to watch my cousin Josh marry his new bride, Mary. They are currently enjoying a week in Hawaii, while I’m sitting at my desk writing this.

I flew out on Southwest… only my second time to fly that airline. Despite the cattle call seating, they are one of the most friendly airlines around. A few things that happened en route:

  1. I won a deck of playing cards. They played a game where each passenger had to guess the collective age of the three flight attendants. Being the only person to guess the right answer (129), I won a free Coke, deck of cards and luggage tag. I could have enjoyed a free cocktail, but it was before noon. Unless it is a Notre Dame tailgate, that is a bit too early in my old age.
  2. Male flight attendant representing. It is probably fair to say that our culture doesn’t view the flight attendant occupation as very masculine. However, I offer this observation. I had the (mis)fortune of using the bathroom after the male flight attendant working on my flight. He left the seat up. Now that is masculinity at its finest, even if it is poor manners. It was also a good sign to me that the tiny airplane bathroom wasn’t going to stink.
  3. Seat greed. With the cattle call seating, you can sit any where you like on the plane (so long as someone is not already in that seat). During our stop in Phoenix, I moved from one seat, where I had no one next to me, to a coveted emergency aisle seat. Then a 6′7″ guy boarded and sat next to me. He definitely needed the leg room, but I would prefer a regular seat with no one next to me than the emergency row seat with someone next to me. The grass always seems greener.

Jordan standing in the Pacific Ocean, July 5, 2007I had a free day to do some sightseeing with my parents and sister… I got to stand in the Pacific Ocean for the first time, as this picture captures. It was freezing. Also saw Hollywood, which was good for about an hour, then spent the rest of the day in Santa Monica, enjoying perfect weather. I can now understand why so many people like Southern California… at least if you are on the coast. Go inland to Riverside, where my cousin lives, and the temperature is brutal.

Josh and Mary Everett, July 7, 2007Here is a shot of the happy couple… Josh and Mary Everett. The wedding was outdoors at 11 am… it was about 110 degrees. Fortunately there was one lonely tree under which most of the guests sat, there was a nice breeze, and Josh told the minister to keep things short.

Jordan, “Prince”, and Suzanne, July 8, 2007On the way back home, I spent a day in Houston with my sister Suzanne and her family. Which now includes a horse, named “Prince.” Here we are posing with him.

All in all a good trip, but it was nice to get home and see Anne and the boys.
